Why You Shouldn't Walk to a Gas Station
Walking along a highway or busy road is dangerous, especially at night or in snow, when drivers may not see you until it's too late. Gas stations can also be farther away than they seem. Staying with your vehicle, with your hazards on, is safer.
What to Do
- Coast to a safe spot as soon as the engine starts sputtering. Get off the road or as far onto the shoulder as you can.
- Turn on your hazards and stay buckled in if you're on a highway.
- Note your location including the highway, direction, and nearest exit.
- Call for fuel delivery. We bring enough to get you safely to the nearest station.
Why It Happens
Fuel gauges aren't perfectly accurate, especially near empty, and the range estimate on your dash can drop quickly in stop-and-go traffic or cold weather. Making a habit of refuelling at a quarter tank prevents most of these calls and is easier on your fuel pump.
After the Delivery
Some vehicles take a few extra cranks to start after running dry while the fuel system re-primes. If it still won't start, let us know. We can check for other problems while we're there.
